KLIA Animal Quarantine Station

Malaysia is classified as a Rabies-controlled country (having a low incidence of the disease). In order to improve this status, all cats and dogs entering Malaysia are required to undertake a mandatory period of quarantine on arrival. This quarantine period allows the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Service (MAQIS) to monitor the animal’s health and make sure that the animal is free from any diseases before it can enter Malaysia. MAQIS operates at the main Animal Quarantine Station (AQS) in KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport), Sepang. The information on this page is relevant to the Quarantine Station.

 Bookings

Pet owners who would like to have their cats and dogs bordered at the Malaysia Animal Quarantine Station (MAQIS) are advised to contact quarantine station borders like R&D, for boarding space reservations. For import permit applications, a valid quarantine booking form is required. Once the space reservation has been made, you will need to contact our administration department to proceed with the preparation of the import permit.

 Animal Arrival

Once your pet is booked onto a flight to Malaysia, the airline will notify our operations specialist of your animal’s Airway bill number (AWB), arrival date and time. Your pet will be received at the airport by our pet relocation expert. When a plane lands at KLIA, there are a number of formalities that must be cleared before your pet can leave the airport to the KLIA’s Quarantine Station. Your pet will need to be cleared by the Malaysian Customs Service. Once formalities are complete, your pet will be then transported directly to the Quarantine Station by R&D’s staff.

                                         Visiting your Pet

You can visit your pet during its stay in the quarantine station. We do not encourage our clients to visit their pets on their first day of arrival at the, as we will be focused on transporting and settling your pet in its space in the quarantine station. Visiting hours at KLIA’s quarantine station is from 10:00 – 16:00 (Monday – Friday) & 10:00 – 13:00 (Saturday & Sunday).

Bedding

Bedding in the travel crates with your pet would most likely be soiled or destroyed on arrival. If you would like to send extra bedding for your pet to use during its at the quarantine center, the extra bedding must be attached to the outside of the crate. Alternatively, bedding can also be sourced in Malaysia, and mailed to us or supplied by you when you visit your pet to the quarantine station.

                                              Feeding

Your pet will be fed with nutritionally balanced (Royal Canin) pet food during their stay at the quarantine center. If your pet requires special dietary meals, you will need to inform us beforehand, by providing us with prescription diets that your pet requires.

Our staff will provide basic grooming and washing to ensure that your pet’s fur coat remains clean and un-matted. You (or your pet groomer at your own expense) are welcome to groom your pets during the period. We strongly advise clients who have long coated dogs and cats to hire external pet groomers.

Importers should also take into account the age and condition of their pets, as well as their travel and climatic stress before having their pets exported to Malaysia. If your pet has any veterinary problems or requires medication (eg. diabetes/ epilepsy), do get in touch with our staff to directly make these arrangements. Your pet’s medical condition must be specified at the time of submission of your import permit application form. Your pet’s medication can only be given between the hours of 10:00 am to 4:00 pm – 7 days a week. Your pet’s medication will not be administered outside these hours.

Animal Departures

Pet departure hours are from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Pet owners are responsible for the collection of their animals from the KLIA Quarantine Station. Pets will only be released to the owner or to an authorized person, arranged by the owner. This representative must be connected with R&D’s staff prior to the collection of the pet. If you are unable to pick up your animal on their release date, you must contact us before the release date. We also offer the service of moving your pet from the KLIA Quarantine Station to our pet boarding center until you are able to collect them.
