Brexit and UK Pet Travel
Brexit day is finally here. How would Brexit affect your pet’s travel plans, especially for pet owners who travel with their pets? We at R&D Capital Logistics are keeping a close eye on changes in regards to importing and exporting pets in and out of the UK.
Pet owners planning a trip to the United Kingdom (UK) from Non-EU countries.
Effectively, after the 31st of January DEFRA – UK will enter an implementation period. During this period, the current EU pet travel rules will continue to apply to non-commercial movements of cats and dogs between the UK and Non-EU countries. What this means is that for pet owners who are planning to travel to the UK during this time, there will be no change to current rules – pets can travel on with their current pet passports.
We have confirmation from both DEFRA and the European Commission that for now there would be no changes. The current Pet Travel Scheme rules still apply and UK issued EU Pet Passports will remain valid and UK vets can still issue EU Pet Passports.
Pets entering the UK from the Non-EU countries will still need to be microchipped, rabies vaccinated followed by a minimum of 21 days wait period and require a pet passport. Cats & Dogs from Malaysia will need to complete the Nipah blood test within 10 days before they are allowed to fly to the UK. The RNATT (Rabies Neutralizing Antibody Titre Test) is not a mandatory requirement for pets entering UK from Malaysia.
